Hello Autumn!

It’s September!!!  YEA!!!!!! Autumn is my absolute favorite time of the year.  With the arrival of Labor Day and the beginning of school it just seems like Fall has finally arrived.  But technically it doesn’t until September 22nd.  But after a long hot Texas Summer it just feels like there might be light at the end of the tunnel.

Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the hustle and bustle of the shopping season.  I am ready for sweaters, falling leafs, chrysanthemum, pumpkins, gords, football, but mainly that cool Fall breeze.  Supposedly we have a “cool front” arriving Friday night.  The high this weekend is predicted to be in the 80’s.  But that’s not Fall.  Fall is 70 degree days and cool sweater mornings.  A cup of coffee or hot tea and a blanket.  That’s what I’m talking about.

The foliage has been losing its freshness through the month of August, and here and there a yellow leaf shows itself like the first gray hair amidst the locks of a beauty who has seen one season too many.  ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

When Spring arrives I always have big big plans.  But before you know it the heat of Summer has seeped in and my energy level is tapped out.  I had big plans this Spring.  What did I accomplish?  Not a heck of a lot.  Who’s fault was it?  Mine, all mine.  But Autumn is arriving soon and I’m ready to start all over again.  I’ve got closets to clean.  Shelves to organize.  Soups, stews, and chili’s to make.  It’s a brand new season.  A chance to get things done.  A opportunity to enjoy myself and take a little pride in things accomplished.

Oh how we love pumpkin season.  You did know this gourd-ish squash has its own season, right?  Winter, Spring, Summer, Pumpkin…. We anxiously anticipate it every year.  ~Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyer, October 2010

Much like the birth of a New Year, the changes of the seasons is a time to reflect, plan, and look forward to the metamorphosis of our world around us.

Autumn arrives in early morning, but spring at the close of a winter day.  ~Elizabeth Bowen
