Four weeks ago this morning I walked out of my doctor’s office totally disgusted with myself. I had received some unsettling news about my liver, but more than anything I was shocked at the number that registered on the scale when I got on it. Click here if you want to know about my liver
But I did walk out of there that day with a resolve to get myself back on track. Maybe a possible liver problem was just what I need to get my attention. I still don’t know what that’s all about, other than I have a fatty liver. I’ll go to the gastro doctor on September 17th. Hopefully I will be in a little bit better shape by then. Well not really hopefully, I will be in better shape by then.
I’m already in better shape than I was four weeks ago. I’m fifteen pounds lighter and I’m walking on the treadmill. I feel really good. I’m energetic, happy, and content. I love what I’m eating and have cheated very very little. Fifteen pounds really makes the difference on the treadmill. I can’t wait until its a little cooler outside and I can start walking down the drive and back. Its about 1/5th of a mile to the gate, downhill and of course another 1/5th of a mile back uphill. I know the neighbor lady walks in the morning. So hopefully I’ll eventually just go out the gate and up the rode awhile.
I’ve had very little carvings. I think that it helps that I had already cut back on sugar and had cut diet sodas completely out. I’m still counting calories. I weigh and measure just about everything I eat. I’ve cut back on the carbs. I haven’t had anything fried, except for some flautas at a lunch I went to. That day I was way over my fat allowance, but I stayed within my calories. I know now that I should have had the tortilla soup or a salad. I will do better the next time something like that rolls around.
Like anything else in life you have to learn to do something a new way. Yes it’s “easier” to run through a drive thru or a donut shop in the morning and just as easy to pick up a burger or something for lunch. The only thing I’ve picked up through the drive thru in the last four weeks is a small side salad. I put my 3 ounces of chicken on it and I’m very content with what I have.
It does take effort and it isn’t easy. But for some reason, this time I’m just not getting any substantial cravings for anything. The little cravings that I have had I’ve been able to talk myself out of. I think I’m on the right track. It may not always be easy, but I think as each day passes it should be just a little easier to keep on this path.
Way to go, just like Mo Farrah said, “One race at a time”. 😉
